Beyond the familiar paths of major watch groups, these French, Swiss, German, Scandinavian, American, and Asian watchmakers offer personal, distinctive visions of timekeeping. Their concepts bring together bold design, a reimagined watch experience, and a celebration of craftsmanship.

Some of these brands are well established; others are what collectors call microbrands, or indy brands, which inspired the name of our concept. These younger watchmakers produce their creations in small batches. They forge their own identities through textured, sculpted dials, architecturally shaped cases, rare complications such as flying tourbillons, and mechanical automata. These details set an independent watch apart from a mass-produced model.

What Is an Independent Watch?

An independent watch is a timepiece made by a watchmaker that belongs to no major watch group and retains full control over its design. Some come from young microbrands and are produced in small batches. Others come from larger watchmakers with permanent collections.

In either case, their mechanical movements may come from established suppliers (Sellita, ETA, Miyota, Soprod...) or be developed in-house. Independent brands often design and develop their own complication modules. They also favor advanced materials and alloys such as titanium, ceramic, and carbon, and combine materials once thought incompatible. This distinctive approach gives each watch an instantly recognizable visual and mechanical identity.

Why give an independent watch instead of one from an established brand? Because it tells a distinctive story: that of a designer or a
small team that chose creativity over volume. It's a chance to give a rare piece, often one of only a few hundred made, at a price generally more accessible than the collections of major watchmakers.
