LIP is a brand deeply rooted in French watchmaking. Founded in 1867 by Emmanuel Lipmann, this Maison has always been linked to great French names: creating a high-precision cockpit watch for Jean Mermoz, gifting the "T18" model to Sir Winston Churchill, and inventing the first electric watch, presented to General de Gaulle and President Eisenhower.
The 1960s, however, marked the beginning of challenging times for the brand, which struggled to counter growing competition from Japan and the United States despite continuous technological innovation. At the same time, Lip deepened its collaboration with renowned designers such as Roger Tallon, Isabelle Hebey, and François De Baschmakoff. LIP began embracing avant-garde design. In 1990, the Sensemat group acquired the brand and relocated to the Gers region. Its fresh marketing vision breathed new life into LIP watches.
Today, the iconic models of that era have been brought back, including the Mach 2000, the Diode, and the De Baschmakoff.
