The Certina manufacture was founded in 1888 in Granges, at the foot of the Swiss mountains, on the family estate of brothers Adolf and Alfred Kurth. The brand name reflects the quality of their watches - it is derived from the Latin "certus", meaning "sure, certain". Decades of flourishing success led the company to launch, in 1959, the first watch featuring the DS concept.
