Certina

Within the DS Action family, the Certina DS Action Diver is the quintessential diving watch. Built around Certina's DS concept to withstand shocks and pressure, it ranks among the most accomplished Swiss Made dive watches in its price range.

Every model is water-resistant to 300 meters and powered by a Swiss automatic movement, usually the Powermatic 80. The Certina DS Action Diver 38mm suits slimmer wrists, while the Certina DS Action Diver 43mm makes a bolder statement. Sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, a rotating bezel that is ceramic on some models, and a date display round out the features, with cases in stainless steel or titanium. The collection also includes chronograph watch models.

Why choose a ceramic bezel for a diving watch?

Ceramic is nearly as hard as sapphire, making it highly resistant to everyday scratches. An aluminum insert, by contrast, can pick up marks from contact with a rock or desk. Ceramic also retains its color despite exposure to UV rays, chlorine, and salt water, without fading over the years. Its markings stay clear for tracking dive time. One caveat: a hard, direct impact can crack ceramic where metal might simply dent. Several recent DS Action Diver models feature a ceramic bezel.

What are the everyday benefits of the Powermatic 80 movement?

Developed within the Swatch Group, this automatic watch movement powers the collection's three-hand models. Its 80-hour power reserve makes a difference: set the watch down Friday evening, and it's still running Monday morning without needing to be reset. Its Nivachron hairspring is made from an alloy that is less sensitive to magnetic fields, helping limit timing deviations caused by smartphones, speakers, or magnetic clasps. Wrist movement winds the watch, so there's no battery to replace. To maintain accuracy and water resistance, have a watchmaker service it about every five years.

Stainless steel or titanium: which should you choose?

Stainless steel remains the standard for its durability, easy care, and the gleam of its polished and brushed finishes. It gives the watch a reassuring weight on the wrist. Titanium is about 40% lighter than steel and hypoallergenic, making it especially comfortable for an all-day dive watch or sensitive skin. Its grayer, matte appearance gives it a technical look. The trade-off is that its surface scratches a little more easily, though its brushed finish helps keep those marks subtle
