The Watch
Year after year, Seiko's mastery of watchmaking produces timepieces that stand apart - each one defined by a detail that makes all the difference. For fall 2019, Seiko looks to its own history, bringing a 1960s icon back to the spotlight. In tribute to the original Seiko 5 Sportmatic, the Japanese brand unveils Seiko 5 Sports: a contemporary lineup inspired by the watch born in 1963. Every model in the collection shares five defining traits - an automatic movement, a dual day-date window at 3 o'clock, solid water resistance, a crown at 4 o'clock, and a robust case and strap. The Sport SRPD55K1 belongs to one of the collection's five distinct styles. Its stainless steel case measures 42.5 mm in diameter and 13.4 mm thick. A single crown sits at 4 o'clock, the dial is protected by a sturdy Hardlex crystal, and the screw-secured exhibition caseback delivers 10 ATM water resistance.
The Dial
The dial of this reimagined Seiko exudes quiet confidence. Where the 1963 original left off, this modern reinterpretation picks up - centered around a sunburst black dial that is both refined and unmistakably masculine. Luminous geometric indices punctuate the dial, echoing the design language of the finest dive watches. Three luminous hands sit at the center: the arrow-tipped hand tracks the minutes, the shorter hand marks the hours, and a slender white-luminous seconds hand sweeps around the dial. At 3 o'clock, two white apertures display the date and day. The Seiko 5 Sports signature sits just below 12 o'clock.
The Movement
Powering this watch is a quality automatic movement engineered by Seiko in-house: the caliber 4R36. Running at an oscillation frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, it delivers reliable precision with a power reserve of approximately 41 hours. Accuracy may vary between -35/+45 seconds per day.
The Strap
Flowing seamlessly from the case, the steel bracelet is built for men's wrists - its unmistakable sporty style says it all. Three rows of links reinforce the timepiece's rugged character, while a double-deployment clasp keeps everything securely in place.
Water Resistance
Rated at 10 atmospheres (100 meters), this watch earns its "water-resistant" designation in every sense. It handles baths, showers, and recreational swimming with ease - though it is not intended for scuba diving (professional or otherwise) or high-pressure water jets. One important note from the Ocarat watch team: always keep the crown and pushers dry during water activities to protect the seal and the movement's integrity.
