This round 750/1000 yellow gold (18K) medal features the Sacred Heart of Christ on the front and the Virgin of the Scapular on the back. This jewelry piece has a combined matte and satin finish.
It was to Saint Simon Stock, Superior General of the Carmelite Order, that the Virgin gave the scapular of Our Lady of Mount Carmel during an apparition in 1251, with this promise: "Whoever dies wearing this habit shall be preserved from the eternal flames". Wearing it - by religious and laypeople alike - is said to place one under the protection of the Virgin Mary.
The Church has approved this devotion - Pope John Paul II and many popes have worn the scapular of Mount Carmel and allowed it to be complemented by this medal so that the three promises of the Virgin apply.
