The Watch

For 15 years, French watchmaker Matwatches has earned its reputation crafting timepieces for the RAID unit, special forces, and various branches of the French military. Today, the brand introduces the AG5 CHL 2 from its Commando Chrono collection. Built around a 316L stainless steel and black PVD case measuring 44 mm in diameter and 16.5 mm thick, it features a graduated unidirectional bezel topped with an orange triangle for pinpoint accuracy. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating delivers outstanding protection. On the left side at 9 o'clock sits a screw-down crown, flanked by two push-buttons at 8 and 10 o'clock. The screw-down case back ensures water resistance to 20 atmospheres - 200 meters.

The Dial

This timepiece features a barrel-shaped matte black case. At the center, two lance-style hands with luminescent inserts display the hours and minutes, while a thinner white hand tracks the seconds. A minute track runs around the dial for added precision. Hour markers take the form of batons and four Arabic numerals, all treated with Super-LumiNova technology. Two sub-dials sit at six and twelve o'clock, indicating 30-minute and 12-hour chronograph functions respectively. A date window at six o'clock shows the current date, while a power reserve indicator is positioned at 3 o'clock. The brand name is signed above the hands at twelve o'clock, with the word "automatic" displayed just below at six o'clock.

The Movement

This model is powered by an automatic movement of Swiss design, the Valjoux 7750 caliber with 25 jewels. Running at an oscillation frequency of 28,000 vibrations per hour, it delivers a 42-hour power reserve. The screw-down crown allows movement regulation for optimal precision and reliability.

The Strap

The AG5 CHL 2 watch comes with three interchangeable straps so you can tailor it to your activity or your mood. The first is crafted in vegetable-tanned leather in black with tone-on-tone stitching; the second is made from rubber in the same color. The third features khaki green canvas in a NATO style with tone-on-tone stitching. All three straps fasten with a pin buckle.

Water Resistance

With water resistance rated at 20 atmospheres - 200 meters, this model earns the title of dive watch without hesitation. Our watchmaking experts agree: while this timepiece handles showers, baths, lap swimming, freediving, and recreational scuba with ease, it is not designed for extreme deep-sea diving where pressure would exceed its limits. Professional divers chasing serious depths should look toward models rated 30 atmospheres and above. We also strongly recommend keeping the push-buttons and crown locked while underwater to maintain a perfect seal.
