The Watch

Airain is a watchmaking brand that draws inspiration from the past while embracing modern technology. The company taps into the heritage of pilot and dive timepieces to deliver robust, functional pieces built to withstand the most demanding environments. The Type 20 70th Anniversary watch presented here stays true to the design and specifications of the original Type 20 from the 1950s. It features a round case crafted entirely from stainless steel. Its dimensions measure 39.50 mm in diameter, 47.50 mm lug-to-lug length, and 10.85 mm in thickness. The case wears a silver tone with brushed and polished finishes that give it a distinctive look. Note that the case features a bidirectional scalloped bezel with a SuperLuminova "Old Radium" Grade X1 marker and a graduated visual countdown. The model is also fitted with a domed sapphire crystal that shields the dial from external impacts and scratches. An anti-reflective treatment ensures excellent legibility of the time indications. The chronograph and other functions are adjusted via the crown and two pushers positioned at 2, 3, and 4 o'clock. Finally, the screw-down caseback provides water resistance of 5 ATM, or 50 meters.

The Dial

The dial features a sandblasted black finish that adds even more character to the watch. Its perimeter hosts a minute track with fine graduations alongside Arabic numerals for easy time reading. These surround luminescent beige Arabic numeral indices for precise hour reading. Both the indices and the three hands above them are coated with SuperLuminova for excellent legibility even in low-light conditions. The hands indicate hours, minutes, while the slender seconds hand tracks the chronograph seconds. The dial also features two sub-dials at 3 and 9 o'clock displaying 30-minute and small seconds counters. The brand name is printed at 12 o'clock as a signature.

The Movement

This model is powered by a Swiss-made manual-winding mechanical movement - specifically, the AM2 caliber from Manufacture AMT in La Chaux-de-Fonds, featuring a flyback complication. It reliably drives the analog display day in and day out. The movement comprises 23 jewels and delivers a power reserve of 63 hours.

The Strap

This timepiece comes with a strap crafted from genuine suede leather in taupe. At the lug area, two beige stitching lines add an elegant finishing touch to the design. The strap features a textured surface for optimal comfort. It fastens with an engraved pin buckle and has a lug width of 20 mm.

Water Resistance

With water resistance of 50 meters, or 5 ATM in standard watchmaking terms, this is a timepiece that can handle water exposure - just not prolonged submersion. You can certainly wear it in the shower on occasion, though keeping contact with water to a minimum will help preserve the quality and precision of the movement.
