The Watch

Founded in 2005, French watchmaker Matwatches crafts timepieces designed for RAID operations and the military, combining exceptional expertise with cutting-edge technology. Today, the spotlight is on the AG5 CHL 2A from the Sea Chrono collection - a watch that evokes the power of the ocean and the force of great yachts. It features a round 316L stainless steel case measuring 44 mm in diameter and 15.50 mm thick - boldly masculine proportions. A unidirectional notched bezel crowns the dial, which is shielded from everyday shocks and scratches by a sapphire crystal. A screwed crown at 9 o'clock lets you set the hands, flanked by two pushers at 8 and 10 o'clock for managing the counters. The watch is water-resistant to 20 ATM (200 meters), thanks to its solid 316L steel case back.

The Dial

At the heart of this watch sits a round, black dial that adds depth and intensity to the wrist. It features two hands and a slender white seconds hand sweeping through hours, minutes, and seconds. The time is marked by indexes, Arabic numerals at 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock, and a railway minute track. For optimal legibility even at night, the hands and indexes are coated with SuperLuminova luminescent material. At 12 and 6 o'clock, two counters display the 12-hour and 30-minute readings respectively, complemented by a date window at 6 o'clock. The maison signs this creation beneath the 12 o'clock index.

The Movement

This timepiece houses an automatic movement manufactured by Swiss maison ETA. Running on the Valjoux 7750 caliber with 25 jewels, it delivers precise analog timekeeping, driving the hours, minutes, seconds, date window, and 2 counters with outstanding reliability. The movement beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour with a 42-hour power reserve.

The Strap

This watch comes with three interchangeable straps, so you can match your look to your mood. The first is in black rubber, the second in sand canvas, and the third in vegetable-tanned fawn leather. All three beautiful straps fasten with a pin buckle.

Water Resistance

With water resistance rated at 20 atmospheres (200 meters), this model qualifies as a true dive watch. Our watchmaking experts agree: while it handles showers, baths, lap swimming, freediving, and recreational scuba with ease, it is not designed for extreme deep-sea diving where pressure would exceed its limits. For professional divers taking on serious depth challenges, we recommend exploring models rated 30 ATM and above. We also advise against operating the pushers or crown while underwater to maintain a perfect seal.
