750/1000 Yellow Gold (18K) medal with a sandblasted finish depicting Saint Peter. This medal features two distinct finishes: a polished finish on the background for brilliance and shine, and a sandblasted finish applied to the figure of the Saint to set it apart from the polished background.
Born in Galilee, Simon worked as a fisherman alongside his brother Andrew on the Sea of Galilee when Jesus called them to follow him. Following this encounter, Simon was given by Jesus the name "Képha," meaning "rock" in Aramaic: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and I will give you the keys of the kingdom."
He then took part in the various miracles and events of Jesus's life and played a leading role among the disciples.
From Pentecost onward, Peter led the early Church by spearheading the first evangelization efforts. He preached in Samaria (Palestine), Cappadocia, and Antioch (Turkey), where he served as bishop for seven years. But it is above all in Rome that his apostolate left its greatest mark. In the Eternal City, he was appointed bishop and became the first pope in the history of the Church. However, following the great fire of Rome in 64 AD, Emperor Nero blamed the Christians and ordered their persecution. Peter was swiftly condemned to crucifixion. He rests on Vatican Hill, where the basilica would later be built.
His name comes from the Latin for "stone," "rock." Saint Peter is depicted as tall and long-haired, carrying one or two keys. His feast day is June 29.
The perfect gift for a birth, baptism, or first communion.
