750/1000 Yellow Gold medal (18K) with a sandblasted finish depicting Saint James. This medal features two distinct finishes. First, a polished finish on the medal's background brings brightness and radiance. Second, a sandblasted finish applied to the saint sets it apart from the polished background.
James and his brother John are known as the first disciples of Jesus. They were even privileged witnesses to the Transfiguration in the Garden of Gethsemane, at the foot of the Mount of Olives. He lived in Bethsaida (Galilee), where he worked as a fisherman when Jesus chose him to follow Him and become an apostle. Christ even nicknamed him "the son of thunder" because of his impetuous nature. Yet James followed Him all the way to His crucifixion. He then chose to preach in Judea and Samaria, performing many miracles that inspired countless conversions. He was nonetheless executed on the orders of Herod, becoming the very first apostle martyr. He was buried in Jerusalem. Legend holds that he also traveled to and evangelized Spain, which naturally made him the patron saint of the country and of pilgrims seeking the sacred. Centuries later, his tomb was said to have been miraculously discovered at Compostela by a hermit. The pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela was almost certainly the most important of the Middle Ages.
His name derives from Jacob, meaning "may God protect." Saint James is depicted with a pilgrim's staff, a gourd, a wide-brimmed hat, and a shell (used for drinking and baptizing). His feast day is July 25.
The perfect gift for a birth, baptism, or first communion.
