Based in Charquemont, the French maison Herbelin has been perpetuating French watchmaking expertise for over 75 years! Drawing inspiration from the world of nautical racing, the brand has forged a truly distinctive visual identity. True to that legacy, Herbelin is proud to introduce its latest timepiece: the Newport Carbon Automatic Titanium 1788CTN14CY. Its round case measures 43.00 mm in diameter (crown excluded) and a slender 12.45 mm in thickness - dimensions that make this a decidedly masculine watch. Engineered with innovation in mind, the case is crafted entirely from forged carbon. This exclusive material is produced through a unique machining process: unlike traditional woven carbon fiber, it is made from carbon fragments blended with resin. The bezel, also in forged carbon, showcases the raw material in all its natural beauty - giving the watch a one-of-a-kind character. Five hex screws adorn the bezel, echoing the look of a porthole. The word "Newport" is engraved at its base. A screw-down crown at 3 o'clock lets you easily set the time, day, and date. Its knurled texture ensures a perfect grip. Flip the watch over and admire the movement through the transparent sapphire of the screw-down caseback in titanium.
Finished in a deep matte black, this stunning dial is decorated with striated engravings evoking the seabed of the ancient corsair city of Saint-Malo - today better known as the starting point of the Route du Rhum race. Along the outer edge of the dial, a minute track allows for precise timekeeping. Every 5 minutes is marked by Arabic numerals. The hour markers feature a distinctive trapezoidal shape. In black, they are tipped with a touch of luminescent material for easy nighttime reading. The hour and minute hands are "sword"-style and also feature luminescent material at their center. The seconds hand, in yellow, gracefully ticks away the passing time. Since knowing the date is always handy, a day-date window sits at 3 o'clock, framed by a slim yellow border. At the bottom of the dial, you'll find the inscription "Made in France". Just above it, the water resistance rating and case material are indicated. At 12 o'clock, Herbelin proudly signs its creation.
Renowned for its robustness and precision, this model is powered by the Swiss automatic Sellita SW220-1 caliber. It delivers a generous 41-hour power reserve - more than enough to keep up with every adventure. Its frequency runs at 28,800 vibrations per hour, or 8 beats per second. This movement also features a quick-change date system and a stop-seconds function.
Built for the modern era, this strap is crafted from FKM elastomer - a material engineered to withstand wear, high temperatures, and various liquids including oil. In short, it's built for tough environments. Its fluorescent yellow color brings a boldly sporty aesthetic. The clasp is a deployant buckle in titanium with a DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) coating, combining ease of use with reliable security.
With a water resistance of 20 atmospheres, equivalent to 200 meters, this model can confidently be called a "dive watch." Our watchmaking experts agree that while this timepiece is more than capable of handling showers, baths, sports swimming sessions, freediving, and recreational scuba diving, it is by no means designed for extreme deep-sea diving, where pressure would compromise its water resistance. For professional divers looking to push depth limits, we recommend models rated 30 atmospheres or higher. We also advise against operating the pushers or crown while in the water to maintain a perfect seal!
