For over 20 years, the iconic Victorinox brand has made its mark in the watchmaking world - and done so with remarkable success. The house's timepieces are defined by flawless craftsmanship and an unmistakably distinctive design. Today, Victorinox introduces a new watch built for exploration without compromising on true horological value: the automatic Journey 1884 241980. It presents itself in a round case crafted entirely from stainless steel, with polished and beveled surfaces - a testament to the house's exceptional technical mastery. A true "Tool Watch," it features a unidirectional rotating bezel in stainless steel. Its 120 clicks deliver precise timekeeping. The insert, in blue, is made from ceramic - a material highly resistant to scratches - and is graduated over 60 minutes with the engraving "1884" at 6:00. A scratch-resistant sapphire crystal sits atop the case. To set the hands and adjust the date, a screw-down crown is positioned at 3:00, engraved with the house's logo and featuring a grooved finish for a secure grip. The caseback is a screw-down, transparent exhibition back, revealing the movement in action. You'll also find the inscription "From the makers of the original swiss army knife". The crystal is adorned with the famous Swiss Army knife motif that made Victorinox a legend.
A stunning shade of blue, this dial can be divided into three main zones. The outermost ring features a white 60-minute minute track, making it easy to read the exact time. The middle section, shaped as a ring adorned with horizontal grooves, houses the hour markers, alternating between geometric shapes and Arabic numerals. Note that the marker at 12 o'clock takes the form of the brand's iconic logo - the same one found on their legendary knives. The 6 marker is triangular in shape. All markers are coated in Superluminova. Both the hour and minute hands feature a "baton" shape, with their generous proportions ensuring excellent legibility. The seconds hand adds a pop of yellow. A date window sits at 6:00, with the inscription "automatic" displayed just above it. The brand's signature rounds out the dial at 12 o'clock.
"An explorer's watch demands a rugged movement - and this one delivers. Inside, you'll find a Sellita SW200-1 Swiss automatic caliber, a true icon of the watchmaking industry, celebrated for its reliability and precision. Its power reserve clocks in at 38 hours, keeping you going wherever the adventure takes you. Beating at 28,800 bph, this fast-paced movement gives the seconds hand a smooth 8 beats per second. In addition to automatic winding, it features manual winding via the crown, a stop-seconds function for precise time-setting, and a quick-set date function."
This model comes with a stunning leather and wood strap that perfectly complements the watch's adventurous spirit. Subtle yet elegant white contrast stitching runs along the edges of this one-of-a-kind strap. The clasp is a beautifully crafted deployment buckle engraved with the manufacturer's logo and name. A second blue rubber strap with a pin buckle is also included with the watch.
With a water resistance of 20 atmospheres, equivalent to 200 meters, this model can confidently be called a diver's watch. Our watchmaking experts agree: while this timepiece handles showers, baths, lap swimming, freediving, and recreational scuba with ease, it is not designed for extreme deep-sea diving, where the pressure would compromise its water resistance. For professional divers looking to push depth limits, we recommend models rated at 30 atmospheres or more. We also advise against operating the pushers or crown while underwater, to maintain a perfect seal at all times!
