The Great Characters Hommage à Queen Limited Edition 1975 fountain pen by Montblanc is a luxurious artistic tribute to one of the most iconic and influential rock bands of all time, Queen. Crafted with remarkable attention to detail and measuring 144.8 mm by 17.8 mm with a weight of 86.2 g, this pen captures the very essence of the charm and extravagance that defined the career of Freddie Mercury and his bandmates. The barrel is wrapped in black and white lacquer, evoking the flamboyant, distinctive stage costumes worn by Freddie Mercury during his legendary performances. This bold color combination is more than aesthetic - it's a direct nod to the artist's iconic stage looks, including those immortalized in the unforgettable "We Are the Champions" music video. Montblanc sought to capture not only the spirit of the music but also the visually striking attitude of the band. Every aspect of the pen speaks to their creativity and their relentless drive to push the boundaries of art and performance.
The clip is platinum-coated and the nib is crafted from solid 750/1000 gold, rhodium-plated and engraved with a silhouette of Freddie Mercury, inspired by the cover of the band's final studio album released in 1995, "Made in Heaven". Other elements pay homage to the band, including the crown-shaped cap dome - a nod to the band's name - and the cone evoking the tuning knobs of Brian May's electric guitar. Additional engravings on the cap include a pattern inspired by the harlequin outfits worn by the singer, alongside the faces of all four band members engraved on the back of that same piece, referencing the covers of Queen II (1974) and Hot Space (1982).
