750/1000 Yellow Gold (18K) medal with a sandblasted effect depicting Saint Vincent. This medal features two distinct finishes: a polished finish on the medal's background for brilliance and shine, and a sandblasted finish on the Saint to set him apart from the polished background.
Vincent was born in Huesca into a prominent Spanish family at the end of the 3rd century. He studied in Zaragoza under Bishop Valerius, who ordained him as a deacon in 303.
However, Emperor Diocletian's persecutions of Christians continued. Dacian, the emperor's procurator, exiled Valerius and had Vincent arrested. Because Vincent refused to publicly burn pages of the Holy Scriptures, he was put to death. His remains were then thrown to wild beasts, but were miraculously protected by a raven. Legend even has it that the ship carrying his relics was escorted by ravens. Around 543, a relic of Vincent was brought to France by the Merovingian king Childebert I, who commissioned the construction of a famous abbey - the Abbey of Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Widely venerated, Saint Vincent is the patron saint of winemakers, though no connection between Vincent and wine has ever been established. The only hypothesis: the similarity at the beginning of his name.
His name comes from the Latin for "to conquer." Saint Vincent is depicted as a deacon, holding the Book of the Gospels and a bunch of grapes. His feast day is January 22nd.
The perfect gift for a birth, baptism, or communion.
Oval bail. Diameter: 15 mm. Average 750/1000 gold weight: 2.30 grams.
