German watchmaking manufacture Junghans began its story in 1861 in Schramberg. Since then, its philosophy has remained unchanged: crafting reliable, precise watches with thoughtful design. Junghans made its mark on the watchmaking world through its iconic models - and on history itself. The German brand served as the official timekeeper of the 1972 Munich Olympic Games. In tribute to that glorious legacy, the maison created a collection entirely dedicated to that era: the "1972" series. Introducing the first watch in this lineage - the 1972 Competition 27/4203.00 Chronograph, a limited edition of just 1,972 pieces worldwide. Every ounce of Olympic sporting spirit is embodied here. Starting with the case: it features an elliptical shape, iconic of the 1970s. At 45.50 mm wide and 41 mm tall, this is a watch that leans decidedly masculine. Yet its thickness remains elegantly restrained at just 14.50 mm. The satin-finished case reinforces the dynamic character of this model. A flat anti-reflective sapphire crystal protects the dial with exceptional scratch resistance. Of course, one of the most distinctive features of this watch is the placement of its pushers and crown - all positioned at 12 o'clock. The pusher at 11 o'clock starts and stops the chronograph. The one at 1 o'clock resets the function. The crown lets you set the time and date. The caseback is secured by 4 screws and engraved with "1972" alongside your watch's individual number out of 1972.
Just like the case, the dial of this 1972 Competition chronograph watch features a gorgeous elliptical shape and a stunning two-tone finish, alternating between orange and gray zones. The central gray section showcases a beautiful sunray finish. A white tachymeter scale runs all the way around the perimeter of the dial against an orange background - letting you measure the speed of an object over 1 kilometer. A feature originally used to time athletes' race splits. The hour markers are square-shaped, faceted into 3 polished and satin-finished sections, and framed by a white minute track. The hour and minute hands feature a "sword" design with luminescent material at their center. The chronograph seconds hand, also centrally mounted, sports an orange tip. The orange sub-dial at 12 o'clock houses the chronograph's 30-minute totalizer. Opposite it, the second sub-dial displays the small seconds. And because knowing the date always comes in handy, the brand placed a date window at 3 o'clock. Finally, note that the maison signs its creation at 9 o'clock.
This exceptional timepiece houses a movement worthy of its prestige: the automatic caliber J880.5. Its standout feature is a built-in chronograph complication, letting you time durations of up to 30 consecutive minutes. You'll also enjoy a generous 48-hour power reserve. Additionally, this movement includes a stop-seconds function, quick date adjustment, and the ability to be wound manually via the crown.
A stunning strap in black leather on the outside and orange on the inside dresses this watch in style. Its perforated finish adds a genuine sporty edge. A deployant clasp crafted in stainless steel serves as the buckle, decorated with the Junghans logo.
This model offers water resistance of 10 atmospheres, or 100 meters - making it a truly water-resistant timepiece. Ready to dive into aquatic adventures with you, from puddles to the pool, this watch handles swimming without complaint. Showers, baths, and sport swimming are all no problem. That said, Ocarat's watchmaking experts want you to know that while this model is water-resistant, it is not suited for diving (professional or recreational) and should be kept away from high-pressure cleaning equipment. We also recommend not operating the crown or pushers while submerged.
