Founded over 128 years ago, German maison Union Glashütte has long upheld the Germanic watchmaking tradition, particularly that of Glashütte. Their timepieces are renowned for exceptional quality and refined aesthetics. To celebrate these many years of watchmaking excellence, Union Glashütte presents the 1893 JOHANNES DÜRRSTEIN EDITION CHRONOGRAPH D007.459.16.017.00. In creating this magnificent timepiece, the maison's watchmakers drew inspiration from the iconic pieces that built the brand's legacy. The watch features a round case in 316L stainless steel - the material of choice among top watchmaking houses for its outstanding resistance to shocks and scratches. In terms of dimensions, the case measures 42 mm in diameter (crown excluded) and 14.2 mm in thickness, making it a watch geared toward a masculine wrist. The hand-finished surfaces of the case alternate beautifully between polished and brushed zones. The polished bezel adds a touch of delicate elegance to this timepiece. A highly effective domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on both sides protects the dial and offers outstanding scratch resistance. On the right side, two pushers are positioned: the one at 2 o'clock starts and stops the chronograph, while its counterpart at 4 o'clock handles the reset. At 3 o'clock, the winding crown lets you set the time, the date, and manually wind the movement. Flip this stunning jewelry timepiece over to reveal a delicate sapphire crystal on the screw-down caseback, offering a view of the magnificent manually wound chronograph movement within.
Paying tribute to vintage chronographs and showcasing the maison's artisanal expertise, this timepiece features a superb white enamel dial. Delicate white reflections play across the surface under different lighting conditions. For precise time reading, a minute track runs along the outer edge of the dial. In black, it displays values every 5 minutes in red Arabic numerals. The hour markers are also rendered in Arabic numerals, delicately applied as appliqués. Their vintage typography is a beautiful nod to the past. The hours and minutes are displayed by elegant "leaf"-style hands, which have been blued using a watchmaking technique mastered by only a handful of craftsmen. The chronograph seconds hand has received the same treatment. Three sub-dials are positioned at 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock, and 9 o'clock respectively. The first tracks up to 30 minutes of elapsed time. The second, at the bottom, can count up to 12 consecutive hours. The sub-dial at 9 o'clock displays the perpetually running 60 seconds. Just below the 6 o'clock sub-dial, a discreet date window shows today's date. At 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock, following the curve of their respective counters, you can read "Handaufzug" and "Chronograph" - meaning "Manually Wound Chronograph". At the base of the dial, the mention "Made in Germany" proudly declares the Germanic heritage of this watch. Finally, the maison signs its creation at 12 o'clock with its name.
Beating at the heart of this watch is a stunning manually wound manufacture caliber UNG 59.S1. Its standout complication is a chronograph capable of measuring up to 12 consecutive hours to the second, thanks to the central chronograph hand. A generous 60-hour power reserve keeps it running longer. Its frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) delivers an exceptionally fluid sweep for both the chronograph hand and the small seconds. In practice, that means 8 beats per second. A stop-seconds function enables precise time setting. As for finishing, the bridges feature perlage - a watchmaking decoration technique reserved exclusively for luxury timepieces.
An elegant black leather strap completes this chronograph watch. It is adorned with delicate tone-on-tone black stitching. Its "butterfly clasp" ensures both ease of use and security.
This model offers a water resistance of 10 atmospheres, or 100 meters - making it a genuinely water-resistant watch. Ready to take the plunge, it handles everything from puddles to the pool without missing a beat. Showers, baths, and recreational swimming are all fair game. That said, our Ocarat watch experts want you to know that this model is not suitable for diving - professional or otherwise - and should be kept away from high-pressure cleaning equipment. We also recommend keeping the crown and pushers dry during any water activity.
